John Morris

Specialist Business and technical management
Sectors Aviation (customer service, catering, airports) and rail

John Morris has a wide experience of the civil aviation industry. He had a varied career with British Airways, covering both front-line management and support functions.

In 1989 he was appointed the BA Project Manager of the Eurohub Project, a new terminal at Birmingham Airport to specifically meet BA’s needs for rapid connections between domestic and international flights. Here he devised a flow pattern and control system enabling a reduction of 30% in aircraft stand requirement, substantially reducing both the size and the cost of the required facilities at Birmingham Airport. He was subsequently involved in examining expansion plans for the terminal where he proposed a number of critical changes, which were again able to substantially reduce the capital costs.

In 1991 John joined the British Airways’ Air Russia project team as Airport Planning Manager. Air Russia comprised the establishment of a new joint venture airline and a new passenger hub terminal at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport. Here he co-ordinated an Anglo-Russian team responsible for the terminal design working through a group of architects, consulting engineers, and civil contractors. The plans were fully developed to the bidding stage enabling the competing contractors to provide firm construction costs.

Since leaving BA, he has been involved in two major airport projects at Manchester and Birmingham Airports, for a terminal appraisal at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, and for a new airport terminal in Kazakhstan. He has also worked on BAA’s Heathrow Express railway project, where he jointly managed and implemented a highly successful series of tests to secure an operating licence from the Railway Inspectorate to operate the trains in the underground sectors under the airport.
