Ted Daynes

Ted Daynes is a highly experienced and versatile senior executive with a successful track record in general management with a number of “blue chip” multi-unit service organisations. His long and varied career includes tactical communications in the Royal Navy, vehicle rental and leasing, contract services and motoring services organisations. Ted is a turn-round and change management specialist.

Ted’s early career was in communications with the Royal Navy. He left the service in 1967 and entered the fast growing vehicle rental and leasing industry. Over a period of some 18 years he worked with a number of the major international vehicle rental organisations both in the UK and Australia mainly in operational and general management roles.

In 1985 Ted joined Compass Group, a leading contract services and site management organisation. Ted served on the board of Compass Services (UK) Ltd., responsible for the largest operating division comprising some 1200 contracts and a workforce of over 13,000. This was a time of tremendous change and growth, resulting in more than a tripling of company profits in three years. This turn round was achieved through organic growth, acquisition, cost cutting, significant improvements in the field of purchasing and the introduction of effective management controls.

In 1989 Ted joined RAC Motoring Services, he held various executive director appointments including responsibility for all operational activity involved in the delivery of services to members and the general public. He then became responsible for group strategic planning and the management of change in the organisation. The core business was completely restructured during this period, moving from a district and regional structure to an integrated national organisation operating from just a few major centres strategically located throughout the UK. All of these changes significantly improved the company’s performance in both service provision and bottom line results. Following this assignment Ted was appointed Managing Director of RAC Enterprises a separate operating division responsible for all non- mutual trading activities including travel services, vehicle inspection, publishing, hotel services, financial services and travel information.

In 1997 Ted left the RAC to concentrate on consultancy and interim management interests and has carried out assignments in healthcare, building services, contract services and local government services. He has also acted as a mentor for the Prince’s Youth Business Trust providing advice for young people starting up their own businesses.
